Recipe Catalog - Tasks: Match Subtask Custom Fields to Parent Task Custom Fields

This recipe automatically copies the custom fields—which you specify—of the parent task to a subtask whenever new subtasks are created.

Overview

For reporting, resourcing, or other reasons, you may want subtasks to inherit the custom field values of their parent tasks. Subtasks do not automatically inherit their parent’s custom field values and copying custom fields from task to task can be a tedious process. This recipe eliminates that manual process and automatically copies the custom fields—which you specify—of the parent task to a subtask whenever new subtasks are created.

After Importing the Recipe

1. In the Projects section on the left-hand section of the home page, select the Catalog Imports project.
   Note: If you moved a recipe to a different project, select that project instead.
2. Select the Settings tab.
3. Select the Project Properties subtab.
4. Select the Edit (“   ”) icon for the catalog_story_cf_ids_to_copy_from_parent project property.
5. Enter a comma-separated list of task custom field IDs as the Value. Do not include spaces.
6. Select the Save (“   ”) icon.

Once you finish configuring the project properties, you can select Start recipe from the Assets list or Recipe Details page to allow the recipe to activate when a trigger event occurs.
