Overview
When projects are complete or put on hold, you can archive or delete them. This helps keep your project list up-to-date so you can focus on active projects.
Archiving Projects
Archiving a project allows you to retain historical information so nothing will be lost, which improves the accuracy of your reports by only collecting data from projects that are currently active. You can archive a project manually or set projects to automatically archive if they've had no activity after a specified number of months in General Settings.
How to Archive a Project
- In the left navigation, select Projects.
- In the Project List on the Projects page, select your project.
- In the project workspace, click the Actions (“ ”) icon to the right of the status drop-down and then select Archive Project. The project is archived and the project changes to View Only for all team members.
- Click OK to confirm that you want to archive the project.
How to View Archived Projects
- In the left navigation, select Projects.
- In the Project List on the Projects page, click the Configure Columns drop-down menu and select the checkbox next to Archived to add the archived column to the Project List table.
- Locate the Archived column in the Project List table. If your table has several active columns, you may need to scroll right to find the Archived column.
- Click the Filter (“ ”) icon to the right of the Archived column name to open the Filter drop-down menu.
- Select Archived and then click Apply. The Project List table is now filtered to show only archived projects.
How to Unarchive a Project

How to Set Projects to Auto-Archive
- In the left navigation, hover over Settings and then click General.
- In the Auto Archive Projects section on the General Settings page, click the Archive inactive projects after drop-down.
- Select the number of months you want all projects to auto archive after.Note: If you want to turn the auto archive feature off, select Never auto-archive from the Archive inactive projects after drop-down.
Deleting Projects
Deleting a project can be performed by a Project Administrator on both the Providers or Clients team. You can delete the project only if it meets the following criteria:
- The project is non-financial. A project is considered "financial" if it contains active financial information such as a budget, invoices, time entries, or expenses. Deleting a financial project compromises the accuracy of your reports, so you can only archive it to ensure its data remains intact.
- The project does not have any tasks with pending items (e.g. timesheets or time adjustments).
- The project does not have any team members other than yourself.
How to Delete a Project
- In the left navigation, click Projects.
- In the Project List tab on the Projects page, select the project you want to delete.
- In the project workspace, click the Actions (“ ”) icon to the right of the status drop-down and select Delete Project.
Note: The Delete Project option only appears if you are the only remaining project participant and the project has no financial information. - Click OK to confirm that you want to delete the project.
