Overview
Ask Insights is a generative BI feature of Expertise Insights that allows you to ask questions using natural language and get quick answers in the form of AI-generated summaries and visuals (i.e. reports). Once created, you can modify visuals, save the visuals to your personal Pinboard for future reference, and provide feedback to help your administrators fine-tune settings to help the AI provide better and more accurate answers.
The Ask Insights feature is powered by topics. Expertise Insights comes with standard topics related to fees, revenue recognition, time and utilization, resource management, and project delivery. Authors can also create custom topics to support questions related to specific data. For more information, see the Topics Overview article.
How to Use Ask Insights
- In the left navigation, hover over Insights, then select Dashboards Home.
- Select the Ask Insights button in the app bar. The Ask Insights side panel opens.
- Open the Select a topic drop-down in the upper-left of the side panel.
- Select the topic you would like to ask questions about.
- If there are multiple date dimensions in the topic, you can select the [N] more… text to see the date dimensions and their date ranges. These date dimensions may be used to answer your question.
- Type a question. You can also select a Suggested Question or select the What’s in [Topic] button to see a list of the data you can ask about.
- Select Ask.
- The following information is displayed:
- On the left is a summary that describes the visuals and findings.
- To the right are visuals (i.e. reports). Multiple visuals and visual types are typically generated.
- If an Author has marked the response as verified, a Verified tag appears below the question text. This indicates that the response is human-verified.
- The Interpreted as information below the question text shows which data fields were used to answer your question and how your question was interpreted. This information can be used to confirm that the AI interpreted your question correctly. To change the data fields, select the Edit button, then use the drop-down menus to change the measures, dimensions, or aggregations.
- If the AI was unable to understand or respond to all parts of your question, a See Why button will appear to the right of the Interpreted as area. Selecting this button opens a tooltip explaining which part of your question was unanswerable. You can submit feedback to help your administrator fine-tune settings so the AI is able to answer this question better.
- If your question could be interpreted in multiple ways, a Did you mean section appears below the Summary with alternative interpretations. Select an alternative interpretation to view the visuals for that question.
- You can take the following actions:
- Hover over a sentence in the summary to see which visual that sentence is based on. The source visual’s outline will be bolded. This helps you explore and verify the information in the summary.
- To provide feedback, select the Feedback button to the upper-right of the side panel. Select the Thumbs up or Thumbs down icon, add optional details, then select Send. Your feedback helps your administrator fine-tune settings so the AI is able to answer questions better.
- To change visual type, hover over the visual, then select the Change Visual Type icon to the upper-right of the visual. Select a visual type in the menu that appears.
- To undo or redo changes you’ve made to the visuals, select the Undo or Redo icons to the upper-left of the side panel.
- Hover over a visual to interact with it.
You can view hover tooltips, click on a value to focus on or exclude that value, and sort data.
For tables, you can also sort, move, freeze, and hide columns or replace fields with other fields. - To save a visual to your pinboard, hover over the visual, then select the Add to pinboard icon that appears to the upper-right of the visual.
- To see information about how the visual was generated, hover over the visual, select the More icon that appears to the upper-right of the visual, and select View explanation. The side panel updates to display a Detailed explanation of the answer.
