Overview
For each asset type, recommended settings and options are provided in order to help reduce the risk of processing errors. A list of supported file types is also included.
Images
For image-based assets, the following settings are recommended:
- Dimensions are less than 4,000 pixels wide by 4,000 pixels high.
- Color space is sRGB.
- Image is 72 dots per inch (DPI).
- There are no specific embedded ICC color profiles.
- Image is stripped of metadata, such as exchangeable image file format (EXIF) tags such as EXIF.

Documents
Kantata Proofing uses Portable Document Format (PDF) so any non-PDF document, like a Word document, gets converted to a PDF. You can convert documents to PDFs before uploading them for Proofing. For best results, use the "Optimize for Web" option.
Note that some PDF features are not fully supported, or may only be partially supported.
Embedded Images
Embedded images are converted into sRGB when opened in the Proofing Workspace regardless of color space, like CMYK.
For best results, make sure your embedded images have a resolution of 110 dots per inch (DPI) or less, are in sRGB format, use JPEG encoding, and are sized accordingly. For example, you don't need a 5,000 x 5,000 pixel image in a PDF scaled-down for review.
Font Features
Embed all required fonts into the PDF. Otherwise, fallback fonts will be used and may cause discrepancies.
Document Page Size
Since documents are rendered at 110 DPI and large page sizes are not rendered beyond 4,000 x 4,000 pixels, it is best to keep page sizes to 36 inches or less in width or height.
Image Reuse
Reference the image within the PDF if you are using it more than once instead of embedding it each time. Note that most software handles this function automatically.
Layers, Transparencies, and Blends
Layers and transparencies consume a large amount of a browser's resources so it is best to flatten the document when possible.
Office Documents: Microsoft Excel
Like other document formats, it is best to convert your Excel document to a PDF before uploading it for review. Use Excel features like print preview, shrink to fit a single page, and print area to see how your Excel file looks when converted to PDF.
Kantata does preserve the page setup and layout settings of the Excel document.
Office Documents: Microsoft PowerPoint
When PowerPoint presentations are converted to PDFs some features, such as animations and embedded controls for video may not be supported.
While Kantata does not currently support the inclusion of speaker notes by default, you can save the PowerPoint presentation as a PDF and then include speaker notes before uploading for review.
Unsupported Document Features
These interactive PDF features are not supported:
- 3D
- PDF Forms (XFA or AcroForms)
- Embedded Content (Flash)
- Javascript
- PDF Annotations

Video
Uploaded video files are transcoded into a low, medium, and high rendition. Your internet connection is tested after the video is uploaded, and the most applicable version is used. In other words, if an uploaded video file does not meet the requirements for a high rendition, then only low-and-medium renditions are available.
The dimensions of your video determine what versions are available. Note that you can upload video files at any frame rate, however, any file that exceeds 30 frames per second (fps) still renders at 30 fps.
Video File Size | Low Rendition | Medium Rendition | High Rendition |
---|---|---|---|
Width >1920 or Height >1080 | Yes (Scaled) | Yes (Scaled) | Yes (Scaled) |
Width 1280–1920 or Height 720–1080 | Yes (Scaled) | Yes (Scaled) | Yes |
Width 640–1280 or Height 360–720 | Yes (Scaled) | Yes | No |
Width < 640 and Height < 360 | No | Yes (Low rendition becomes the default option) | No |
To bypass transcoding and save processing time, follow the recommended default format for video and audio. Note that these recommendations are the same for medium and high renditions.
